Our beloved Eugene Llewellyn Browne, 88, died surrounded by his family on Feb. 8th in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He is pre-deceased by his dearly loved wife, Eleanore, with whom he celebrated his 65th wedding anniversary this summer.
He is survived by his children, Valerie, Pamela, Karen, Deborah, Eugene and Kevin, and over twenty grand- and great-grandchildren.
Eugene was raised in New York City and graduated from Howard University School of Pharmacy in 1956. Throughout his career he owned multiple pharmacies including the Medicine Shoppe in Saint James. He dispensed medication and advice with a caring smile, always using the golden standard of pharmacy care he was known for.
Eugene and Eleanore settled down and raised their children on Long Island. As the kids grew older, it was common to see them helping their father in the pharmacy and learning the same ethics of hard-work and responsibility he practiced daily at work and at home.
In retirement, they moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida and quickly became part of the community, where you might see him golfing, bowling or volunteering as a security guard in the neighborhood.
Throughout his life Eugene was known as a gentleman of exceptional grace. He was always willing to share a quiet conversation regarding life decisions and mentoring those he loved.
His love, wisdom and guidance will be missed dearly.
“Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me prov’d,
I never writ, nor no man ever lov’d.”
Wm Shakespeare
