Obituary

Benedetto "Benny" Zangri of Nesconset, NY passed away on July 4, 2023 of natural causes. Benedetto was born on November 11, 1938 to Guiseppe and Francesca Zangri in Borgetto, Sicily. He immigrated with his parents, brother and sisters to New York in 1957. He worked in construction and later as a transit worker. In 1961, he met Angelina Saggese in Brooklyn on a blind date. They married in 1963 and went on to have three children, Frances, Joseph, and Lucy and nine grandchildren, Robert, Cassandra, Christopher, Luke, Magdalena, Felicia, Benedetto, Joseph, and Benedetto. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in February. In 2001 Benedetto retired and spent his time with his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews, and their children, his neighbors, members of the Sons of Italy and Knights of Columbus, and his former colleagues, as well as tending to his garden. He was an avid supporter of every endeavor any family or extended family member attempted and could always be found in the front row, sideline, or concert hall rooting for their success. Benny was beloved by many and made everyone feel special and loved. He was predeceased by his parents Guiseppe and Francesca Zangri, his sister Mary LoDuca and his brother John Zangri. He is survived by his loving wife Angelina Zangri and their children Frances (Gabe), Joseph (Karen), Lucy and grandchildren Cassandra, Robert, Christopher (Lexi), Luke , Magdalena, Benedetto, Felicia and Benedetto. Wake - St James Funeral Home July 6 & July 7th 2-4 and 7-9pm, Mass Saturday July 8th at St Patrick's Church in Smithtown at 9:30am, Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery
