Dominick Michael Salerno passed away peacefully on the evening of April 7th, 2025. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Dominick is survived by his wife, Maria, son John (Donna), Daughters Sarah (Eric), Catherine and Loretta. His grandchildren are Joseph, Christopher, Marina, Steven and Gabriella. As well as many other loving friends and family members.

Dominick was born in New York City to his parents John and Sarah Salerno. Dominick met his wife Maria Coppa in Canarsie, Brooklyn in the late 1950's and married in 1960. They would be celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary together this June. Dominick and Maria eventually moved to Saint James with their four children and bought a home where they raised their family.

Dominick was a builder, licensed architect, member of the Smithtown Zoning Board of Appeals, Chairman of the Board of Assessment Review. Dominick had great pride in his Italian heritage and was the former president of the Sons of Italy. Dominick worked for the New York City Board of Education as an Architect and was the Chief Architect for the New York State Department of Parks and Recreation's Long Island Division, where he worked until he was 72 years old.

Dominick gave back to the community through service and leadership as a role model.  As a Boy Scout leader, he organized service projects and was a mentor for the Architectural Merit Badge for Boy Scouts. For many years, he volunteered as a baseball coach for the St James, Smithtown Little league. He also sang in the St. Philips and James RC Choir. He volunteered and was actively involved on Historical Preservation Boards to preserve local and out-of-state buildings.

He enjoyed drawing, singing, going to church, listening to and playing music.

Dominick believed deeply in the power of hard work, tradition, and family values. Dominick's values transcended to his children and grandchildren as a guiding light forever. His dedication to his family and his work was unwavering.

Above all, Dominick's greatest pride was his family. As a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he treasured every moment with his family. He never missed a softball game, concert, recital, or family outing. Dominick loved his grandchildren and was always looking to spend as much time with them as possible, making cherished memories

He left an unforgettable mark on all who knew him, and his legacy of love, family and hard work will live on in our hearts forever. May he rest in peace, knowing the impact he has made on the lives of those around him.
