Obituary

Francis J. Mooney 90, of St. James, New York passed  away on Monday June 20, 2022.  Beloved husband to Marilyn C. (nee Barrett).   Loving Father of Annemarie and her husband Chris of Stony Brook, N.Y, Maureen and her husband Kevin of Poquoson, VA,  Frank and his wife Erin of New Castle,  CO and Michael and his fiancée Donna of Glenwood Springs, CO.  Proud Grandfather to Michael, Tim, Patrick, Kevin, TJ, Kevin, Ryan, Kerry, Nicole, Sean and Liam.  Francis was the dear brother of Mary Agnes (late Joseph) and his late brothers James (late Betty) and Lawrence.

Frank grew up in the Bronx, and was a proud graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School.  After high school, Frank enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served honorably during the Korean War.  Upon His return from Korea, Frank used his  GI benefits to graduate from Manhattan College with a degree in Civil Engineering.  Frank worked on numerous construction projects throughout the city and Long Island, culminating in Him serving as the Town Engineer of Smithtown until his retirement in 1992.

Frank loved to laugh, sing Irish songs, debate and explore the world, but his greatest love was for his wife, Marilyn.  Frank and Marilyn's love story began in Rockaway Beach and lasted until He took his last breath.  Frank's adventurous spirit took Him and his family to Ghana, Africa where he worked and an Engineer for the Agency for International Development.  Upon their return from Africa, Frank and Marilyn found their piece of paradise in St. James, N.Y. where they raised their 4 children near the water that he loved so well.  Frank spent many happy years sailing and racing sailboats on the Long Island sound. Hearing the call to explore more, Frank and Marilyn spent a year on their boat traveling the Great Loop.

Frank lived for his family, his faith and his love of a good time.  Nothing made him happier than to share a Budweiser with friends and family.  Although it's hard to summarize a life well lived, with an abundance of family gatherings, great friends and compassionate care givers, we know that our Father felt that he was the richest man alive because of the people who shared their time with Him.
