Obituary

Heather Eileen Vassar, 44, of St. James, New York, passed away on January 14, 2026 after facing illness with grace and strength.

Heather was a truly gifted classical musician whose talent and dedication to music shaped her life and touched many others. She played the oboe, flute, and piano, and her musical journey included performances at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Music was not only her passion but her calling. She was a devoted teacher who shared her love of music generously, inspiring students through both instruction and example.

In addition to her work as a musician and educator, Heather served as a benefits administrator for disabled children and adults, a role that reflected her deep compassion and commitment to helping others. She was known for her warmth, loyalty, and strength, and for the joy she brought into the lives of those around her.

Heather had a love for music festivals, especially Bradstock, and cherished traveling and experiencing new places. If you knew her personally, you adored her. She was full of life, fiercely loyal as a friend, and an incredible daughter, sister, and aunt.

She is survived by her mother, Deborah Vassar; her father, Gregory Vassar, and his wife, Donna; her brother, Greg, and his wife, Kristen; and her beloved nephew and nieces, Ian, Madelyn, and Katie. She is also lovingly remembered by her longtime partner, George Honenstein.
