James E Barton 87 of Stony Brook passed away Friday May 22, 2026 at the Stony Brook VA. Medical Center. He was born in Poughkeepsie NY the son of Francis W. Barton Sr. and Irma Balough Barton. He lived most of his life in Stony Brook. He graduated from Hicksville H.S. in 1957 where he played football. After graduating HS. he enlisted in the Marines. His hobbies included Body Building, Weight Lifting, Hiking and Gardening. He was a loved Husband, Father, Father in-law and Grandfather. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor, his stories and caring of others. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, son James, daughter in-law Melssa and grandchildren Ashley and James Barton III.  In addition to his parents, Jim was deceased to his brother Frank and cousin Bill Fink.
