Obituary

On Saturday August 13th, 2022 John DeLorenzo Loving Husband, Son and Brother passed from this life at the age of 58. He leaves behind his wife of 21yrs Susan "Sue" (Tumbleson) DeLorenzo of Nesconset, his Mother Linda DeLorenzo, his Sister Andi DeLorenzo and her children his cherished nieces and nephews, Angelina, Cliff, Aala and Nadas all of East Setauket. John also leaves behind several Beloved Cousins, Aunts, Uncles and Friends (Extended Family).  Born in Brooklyn New York on July 6, 1964 to his Mother Linda and father Vito Bongiorno he later moved to Nissequogue with his Mother Linda, Sister Andi and Step Father Anthony DeLorenzo and graduated from Smithtown High School East in 1982.  He attended C.W. Post Long Island University as a Psychology Major 1982-1984 and transferred to the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in NYC where he pursued his true passion and earned a BFA in Photography graduating in 1987.  Always a free thinker with a brilliant and inquisitive mind John questioned everything and sought his own answers. He was an avid reader and a deep thinker with a compassionate heart.  At SVA he was surrounded by other highly creative people many of whom became lifelong friends.  While at SVA John found himself on the doorstep of the Sivananda Yoga School. He walked through that door and committed himself to this pursuit for 3 years as well. To his friends he was Johnny Dichotomy so diverse were his interests. The teachings he learned at the Sivananda school propelled him to seek out advanced training with a Healer he heard of named Master Pi who ran the Wellspring Zen Monastery in Pound Ridge NY. So John pursued his Freelance photography and commuted to the Monestery for five years where he studied Kung fu and Tai Chi earning himself a 2nd degree black belt in Nabi Su (Butterfly Hand) Kung Fu and practiced the art of meditation. He believed his time pursuing these practices had the greatest influence on making him the man he had become.  In addition to Freelance Photography, John also held positions as a NASDAQ market maker for Baird Patrick And Co., a Day Trader for Schonfeld Securities, a Financial Advisor with Met Life and Edward Jones. He worked as a salesman for various firms seeking a complement to his freelance career. John also worked for Developmental Disabilities Institute. This career move was inspired by the deep affection he has for his brother in law Roy Tumbleson who has autism. With every change came growth and learning, new friends and the opportunity to leave at least one person at each place a little better off, happier possibly for having known him. John spent the last three years enjoying his work as a commercial real estate agent for Select Investment Properties in Stony Brook NY.  He was so grateful for the opportunity to learn from and work with that wonderful team of people. John was a talented artist, photographer and poet. His photographs appeared in several magazines including Bloomberg Markets Magazine, Art and Auction Magazine, Sotheby's and Christie's Auction House, Advantage Media Graphics, VOX Magazine and others. John also enjoyed Chess, Extreme downhill and cross-country Mountain Biking, Kayaking, Fishing and being with friends and family. He was a blessing to all and the love of my life.
