Obituary

Joseph Nicholas Reinhart III, 70, passed away on March 11, 2024. He was born on December 6, 1953, in Hornell, New York. Joseph was a loving husband to Laura Reinhart and a devoted father to his sons Joseph and Andrew Reinhart. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Stephen, Matt, and Courtney, and their children Harrison, Howard, and Eleri. Joseph's achievements began early on. Elected Class President his senior year, graduating with honors in the class of 1972 from Smithtown Central High, where as an outstanding athlete he lettered in both lacrosse and wrestling. Along with his academic and athletic honors Joseph achieved national recognition as an "Outstanding Teenager of America" the annual Who's Who Among American High School Students, representing New York State. He furthered his education at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, the Officer Candidates School in Quantico, and obtained a Master of Computer Sciences from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. Joseph had a distinguished military career serving in the US Marine Corps, retiring at the rank of Major and transitioning to the private sector as an IT and technology leader in telecommunications. He was a dedicated and loving "Poppa" to his grandchildren, a pillar of support to his sons, and a devoted sibling to his brothers and sisters. A quality that extended to many others outside of his family as well. He will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, and willingness to extend a helping hand. A wake will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm, with the funeral service taking place at 11:15am Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Saints Philip and James Church in St James New York. Joseph will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his family, and his successful career. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
