Obituary

Josephine "Jo" LaFroscia, 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Smithtown on December 25, 2020. She was born in Brooklyn, NY to Gaspare and Josephine Curella. She was married to Ernest "Ernie" LaFroscia for 55 years and has two daughters; Donna and Diane. Prior to becoming an elementary school teacher, Jo began her career as nutritional educator to nurses at St Mary's Hospital in Brooklyn. She went on to dedicate her career to the education of children, making it her mission to understand and improve the lives of others. She obtained her Masters in Education from Columbia University and continued on as a dedicated educator for the Commack School District for over 30 years. Greenfields and Rolling Hills Elementary School classrooms were the starting place for so many children . Jo loved to travel, enjoyed attending shows on Broadway and seeing her favorite performers live. Johnny Mathis was her favorite of all. She was an avid Mets fan! She adored her grandchildren and was very proud of all their accomplishments. She was predeceased by her husband Ernie, who passed in 2011. She is survived by her daughters Donna and Diane ( John) and by her grandchildren Nick, Sara Jo, Matthew and Paul, who loved their Grammie so very much.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation to Shriners Children's Hospital be made in her name.
