Matthew "Matt" Joseph Ress was a devoted, hardworking and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Matt left this world on August 1st 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born to Kurt and Teresa Kless on September 06, 1961. After marrying the love of his life, Cindy, Matt chased his dreams in opening a firewood and land clearing business on Long Island. Together, they had 6 children: Dustin (Jennifer), Brandon (Michelle), Ryckie (Stefanie) , Gavin (Shannon), Casey (Gabrielle) and Shannon (Damian) who continued his legacy throughout his 17 grandchildren: Brandon, Matthew, Nolan, Aryanna, Nyckie, Troy, Angelina, Brea, Blake, Brody, Aaliyah, Kurt, Briella, Declan, Austin, Cody and Rome.

Matthew lived out the last decade of his life in the beautiful US Virgin Islands. He was well known in the islands as Captain of The Cinnamon Bay charter boat, reciting its vast history to admiring visitors and making cherished memories with his family and friends. Matt was instrumental in the island cleanup after Hurricane Irma and his efforts will be appreciated by locals and visitors for decades to come. Soon after he opened a successful construction business in the islands, just as he had done on Long Island. He was a dedicated employee to Haugland Industries, contributing tirelessly to island restoration and recovery. Matt loved his work and therefore truly never worked a day in his life.
