Michael Peter Cesa M.D. passed on to eternal life on December 31, 2025. Born in the Bronx, New York on September 4, 1946 to John and Catherine Cesa, Mike represented the first Italian American members of the baby boom. The family would later be completed with the birth of his sister Angela. Mike had a wonderful childhood, cherishing his large extended Italian family, many friends and education at our Lady of Mount Carmel and later Fordham Prep. It was during his time at Fordham prep that he would meet the love of his life and eventual wife Barbara. They would date throughout high school and his college years at Manhattan College and ultimately marry in the summer of 1969 as he completed his first year of medical school at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. They proved to be a wonderful compliment to each other and enjoyed a happy and blessed 56 year marriage. Their first son Christopher would be born three years after they were married, followed soon thereafter by their sons Thomas and Gregory. At this point, he moved the family from Brooklyn upon completion of his fellowship in cardiology to Smithtown New York where he would remain for the rest of his life. Their only daughter Meredith was born in 1980, completing the Cesa family. Mike would join with three other cardiologists who shared his passion for patient care, forming North Suffolk Cardiology in 1980. During this time, he built lifelong friendships and literally touched the hearts of thousands of patients who continue to love and admire him long after his retirement. His son Christopher joined the group in 2006 and they were fortunate enough to work together for nine years before Mike's retirement in 2015. Mike was a man with varied passions and hobbies. He was an incredible family man and devoted husband. He would give any credit to the family's success immediately to Barbara, who he appreciated and respected on every level. He loved baseball and remained true to his Bronx upbringing, rooting for the Yankees his entire life. He had a passion for his childhood hobby, collecting Lionel trains on an almost legendary level. He loved music of all genres and was constantly entertaining with it. Above all, Mike Cesa loved people. He loved his patients, medical staff, friends, neighbors and fellow Alumni of Fordham Prep, Manhattan College and SUNY Downstate. He was active in multiple Alumni societies and served on the Alumni board of Downstate until his passing. More than he even collected trains, Mike collected friendship and it served him well throughout his life. He is survived by his one true love Barbara, his four children, Christopher (Janine), Thomas (Sharon), Gregory (Caron) and Meredith (Jon), and his nine grandchildren (Alessandra, Jason, Jocelyn, Gabriella, Emma, Mattingly, Danielle, Matthew and Amelia) to whom he was affectionately known as "Docy". He leaves behind a wonderful legacy of compassion, wisdom and generosity. He is remembered fondly by generations of patients, hundreds of colleagues and innumerable friends.
