Thomas Joseph Ryan, beloved husband, father, grandpa, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2025. Tom was 92 years old and had been married to the love of his life, Mary, until Mary passed away this fall. For the past two months, Tom struggled with many hospitalizations and was missing his beloved Mary. He was able to spend a joyful Thanksgiving at home with his beloved daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. Tom spent his last day peacefully and comfortably surrounded by his loving family at the Good Shepherd Hospice in Port Jefferson, New York.

Tom was born on November 16, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, and soon afterward moved to the Upper West Side of Manhattan where he grew up with his loving parents Daniel and Lucy Ryan, and his beloved siblings Frank, Patricia, Bill, and Kathleen. Tom shared many stories of playing ball in the streets of Manhattan, visting the Museum of Natural History and Central Park Zoo, swimming in the Hudson River, and dipping ponytails in inkwells at St. Gregory's Catholic School. Tom enlisted in the army where he coached basketball, trained to become a paratrooper in the 82cnd Airborne Division, 325th Airborne Regiment, and earned the nickname "Speedy" for being the first to line up for meals. After serving, Tom studied at St. John's University where he met Mary at a church dance. After graduation, Mary and Tom married and moved to St. James where they raised their four daughters and enjoyed 68 years of married life. Tom worked diligently at Allstate and spent all his free time devoted to his family, aptly naming his boat "Ryan's girls." Tom adored his ten grandchildren, who could always count on him for his time, generous gifts, and unfiltered advice. Tom was a devout Catholic, never missing Sunday mass. During his retirement, he pursued, with Mary, a masters degree in theology at the Seminary of Immaculate Conception. Additionally, he taught catechism classes and ran a men's scripture study class at Sts. Philip and James Parish.

Tom is survived by his four loving daughters and sons-in-law: Jeanine (Peter), Tracy (Rick), Melanie (Ken), and Heather (Brendan); his ten beloved grandchildren: Ryan, Kyle, Craig, Tom, Joe, Claire, Shannon, Gwyneth, Brendan, and Ciara; and many dear nieces and nephews.
