Warren J. Sulmasy, Sr., born in the Throgs Neck section of The Bronx and resident of Smithtown, NY for over 54 years, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 25th with his wife of 68 years, Margaret "Peggy" by his side. He was 89 years old. A U.S. Navy veteran of The Korean War, proud graduate of St. John's University and a New York City Police Sergeant, he will be remembered as an adoring husband, devoted father and dedicated citizen. After his retirement from the police department, Warren began a long career in higher education serving in the administrations of Bank Street College, Hunter College and Southhampton College. In 1986 he received an honorary doctorate from Hunter College's School of Arts and Sciences. Locally, Warren served as President of the Nesconset Taxpayers Association and was a Republican Party committeeman for decades. He is survived by his wife Peggy, his children and their (spouses); Daniel (Lois) of Washington, DC, Cathy Thomas (Pete) of Darien, CT, Glenn (Marla) of Old Lyme, CT and daughter-in-law Dawn of Naples, FL. His loving son and buddy, Warren Jr. predeceased his father passing in 2017. He is also survived by his brother Arthur (Nancy) of Warwick, RI. Warren leaves his 11 grandchildren whom he adored and spoiled on every occasion. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 28th at 10am at The Parish of the Holy Cross in Nesconset, NY. Calling hours are from 2 - 4 pm and 7 - 9 pm on Wednesday, July 27th at the St. James Funeral Home in St. James, NY.
