Obituary

William "Bill" Cipriano Maccaro passed away surrounded by his beloved family on the morning of July 13, 2023, after a brave battle with cancer. He was 71 years old.

Bill was born and raised on Long Island, the middle child and only son of his parents, William and Katherine. Growing up he loved rock music and muscle cars, and after graduating high school attended college at Niagara University in upstate New York.

Bill met his beloved wife, Carol (nee Edgar), while they were both working at The Plankhouse Restaurant in 1977. They were married in 1978 and, after Bill spent some legendary years working in Long Island's nightclub industry, they went on to welcome two children.

Bill was a man of many talents, building his home in St. James with little more than his own two hands and the help of his friends and family. He and Carol raised their family in this home, not far from the whistle of the Long Island Railroad. Fittingly, his journey brought him to serve as a conductor on the LIRR, ultimately retiring in 2020 after 20 years of service.

Bill's first grandchild arrived on September 10, 2021, his and Carol's 43rd wedding anniversary. This arrival was the best anniversary gift he'd ever received and the brightest light in his life. It also couldn't have been more fitting, as Bill loved nothing more than being surrounded by his family, be it his immediate family or the members of the extended Edgar clan, which he loved as his own.

Bill possessed a special brand of humor; he often made people laugh with just a few words and a glance. He loved his boat, the water, and soaking up the sun, be it while on the Long Island Sound, visiting his second home in Florida, or vacationing in the tropics. He had a passion for mob movies, history, classic rock, and beautifying his home, and he was happiest when feasting on seafood or presenting his family (and his grandpets) with a perfectly cooked steak.

Bill is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carol, his son, William Anthony, his daughter, Jennifer Kate, her husband Andrew, his granddaughter, Stella Joelle, and his sister, Barbara. He is preceded in death by his mother, Katherine, his father, William, and his sister, Emily.

In lieu of flowers, Bill's family would appreciate donations be made to the Perlmutter Cancer Center. https://give.nyulangone.org/funds/perlmutter-cancer-center/
