William Owen
Werner
Aug 2, 1940 — Dec 20, 2022
Beloved to so many, William Owen Werner Sr., age 82, passed away after a full, love-filled life, on Tuesday December 20, 2022. William (Bill) was born in Mineola, New York on August 2, 1940 to the late Jane Zwaryck and the late Edward Werner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Patricia Werner and the mother of his children Francene Werner-Dunn. As a young man, he and his father started their own family glass business, Werner Glass & Mirror. The business was started in St. James in 1962. Bill helped to raise three children while managing the business. Other than his childhood jobs like babysitting or working at the luncheonette, Bill was a glazier for the majority of his life. He and his brothers followed their father's footsteps and continued the family's legacy of working with glass. The tradition continues to this day with his children and grandchildren who have all learned the trade from him. Bill loved baseball as a young boy and continued that passion throughout his life by playing, coaching and watching the Yankees. Bill was somewhat of a celebrity in St. James as he was very involved in the community. He was a member of the Smithtown Chamber of Commerce and the St. James Lion's Club. He also had a passion for bowling, reading, and paint by numbers. When he had a free moment, which wasn't often, he loved to sit down and watch a good Hallmark movie. Although Bill loved these things, there was nothing more that he loved than his title of Papa and his wife Patricia (Nana). William is survived by his loving children: Cynthia Suarez (Bert), William Werner Jr. (Shannon), and Stephan Werner (Maureen), Dean (Jennifer), and Donna; grandchildren Kevin Jr, Marco (Heather), Matthew, Eddie (Brittany), Michael (Danielle), William III, Katherine (Sarah), Cory (Kathleen), Casey (Meaghan), Jimmy, Jenna, Jordan, Alexa, Brooke, Savannah, and Kaitlynn; great-grandchildren Jayden, Marco Jr, Jax, Joey, Damian, Emilia, and Carter; brothers and sisters Bud (Annette), Edward (Barbara), Victoria, Michael (Christine), Helen (Curtis), Annette (Robert), John Hinchy and many nieces and nephews. Bill will forever be remembered as a great man and role model and will forever be in our hearts.
