Alice Petruny, born on October 11, 1922, passed away this Saturday January 13, 2024 at the age of 101 years old. Alice, born in New York City and having lived on Suggs Lane in Hicksville with her husband Michael Petruny for over 50 years, moved to live with her Daughter Carol and family in Nesconset in 2000.
After moving to Nesconset, Alice proudly served and volunteered for decades with the Town of Smithtown RSVP program and the Nesconset Nursing Home, where she enjoyed conversation with residents and running the coffee shop. In 2016 Alice was named a New York State Senior Volunteer of the Year and was celebrated in Newsday. Alice loved volunteering, helping, and connecting with others as well as any opportunity to chat, laugh, and smile. She remained an active participant in the Smithtown Senior Center, St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, and a patron of the Nesconset Library as long as her health would allow.
Alice is survived by her children Carol Woods and James Petruny, her grandchildren Morgan Woods Tavis, Jonathan Woods, Nicole Petruny, Michael Petruny, and her four great grandchildren Aiden Woods, Austin Woods, Kennedy Tavis, and Savannah Otto. Alice will be fondly remembered for her service to others, a warm sense of humor, and her positive and outgoing personality.
