Angela Guisti-Piazza Obituary

Angela Lydia “Gelìn” Giusti Piazza de Acevedo, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, left this world on March 22, 2023 at the age of 88. She was born in Peñuelas, Puerto Rico on June 19, 1934.

After living most of her young life in Ponce, she came to New York in 1953 to join forces with Pedro J. Acevedo and start a family dynasty that continues to this day. They married in October of that year, and proceeded to raise five adorable children, pitching their tent in various parts of New York until eventually settling in St. Albans, Queens.

In the early years Gelìn was the typical housewife. But after her youngest was old enough to take care of himself, she took a job at Deknatel Inc. in Queens Village, assembling sterile sutures for use in hospital operating rooms.

She left Deknatel (now Pfizer Pharmaceuticals) in 1986 to return to her homeland, Ponce, Puerto Rico. She and Pedro purchased a home in the Glenview Gardens neighborhood in Ponce, and she remained there for the next 33 years, joined by her husband after he retired as a diamond cutter in 1997.

A lover of music and dancing, Gelìn was a staple at the weekly “bohemios” held at the famed marina “La Guancha” on the outskirts of Ponce. There she enjoyed the beautiful melodies and harmonious singing styles of various “Trio” groups, a genre she fell in love with at a very young age.

Gelìn is predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Pedro; her sister Olga (Lolìn); brothers Alcides, Francisco (Pancho), Antonio (Tony), Jose, Osvaldo, and Andres.

She is survived by her children Nancy, Lourdes, Olga, Pedro (Petey), and Radames (Sonny); sisters Milagros, Miriam, Isabella, and Yolanda; brothers Rigoberto and Eduardo; grandchildren Anthony, Freddy, Michelle, Christina, Heidi, Krishellee, Amanda, Andrew, and Brian; greatgrandchildren Damian, Christopher, Ruben, Jayson, Imani, Zoe, Luke, and Brandon.

The wake will be held on Sunday, March 26 at the St. James Funeral Home, 829 Middle Country Road, St. James, NY., from 2 – 4 pm, then 7 – 9 pm. Afterwards her remains will be transported to Puerto Rico, where she will be viewed again for her family back home. Gelìn will be interred for eternity along with her husband at the Cementerio La Merced in Coto Laurel
