Barbara A. Britt

SMITHTOWN, NY - Barbara Britt, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and educator, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 2, 2025, at the age of 85, following a courageous battle with liver cancer and acute kidney failure. Born on March 10, 1940, in Port Jervis, New York, Barbara lived a long life marked by devotion to her family, her students and her many passions.

She met and married her husband and best friend, Bill Britt, who was also a Port Jervis native. The two shared 58 beautiful years of marriage until his passing in December 2019. Their bond was an example of love, commitment, and companionship.

Barbara is survived by her sister, Caroline; her three children, Jessica (son-in-law, Jeff), Adam, and Colby (fiancé, Patty); and the grandchildren who brought endless joy to her life-Jake, Josh, and Tyler.

Professionally, Barbara spent her career shaping young minds as a teacher at Brentwood High School on Long Island, NY. She was deeply committed to education and took pride in helping to shape the minds of future generations.

Beyond the classroom, Barbara was an avid read-er, a film and Broadway enthusiast, and a devoted fan of the English Premier League, particularly Manchester United. Her wit and wisdom will be missed deeply and remembered fondly.

A memorial celebration of life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a cancer research in her honor.
