Barbara A. DeStefano

Saint James, New YorK
Barbara A. DeStefano, 87, of Saint James, New York, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on July 12, 1938, Barbara built a life centered on devotion—to her faith, her husband, and the family she cherished above all else. She was the beloved wife of Michael DiStefano, with whom she shared a lifetime of partnership, strength, and unwavering commitment.
Barbara was a proud and loving mother to Lorraine Hegarty (Robert Hegarty), Barbara O’Brien (Michael O’Brien), and Charles DeStefano (Carla DeStefano). Her legacy continues through her adored grandchildren: Lorraine Davis (Jesse Levy), Robert Hegarty (Audra Hegarty), Michael O’Brien (Angela O’Brien), Anthony Hegarty (the late Alexandria Hegarty), Kathryn DeStefano (Allison Stumper), Daniel O’Brien (Emily O’Brien), and Kristina DeStefano (Harpreet Singh). She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Aidan Davis, Ava Davis, Hudson Hegarty, Greyson Hegarty, Taylor O’Brien, Thomas O’Brien, and Olivia O’Brien, each of whom brought immense joy to her life.
She is survived by her loving siblings Ellen Ruggiero, Theresa Barbagallo, and Daniel DiStefano. She was predeceased by her siblings Patricia Greene and William Sutcliffe.
Barbara’s home was the heart of her family. She was famous for her cherished traditions—Pizza Fridays and Pasta Sundays—gatherings that brought generations together around her table. Nothing made her happier than having her entire family under one roof. That was her greatest joy and her deepest wish.
She loved playing the card game Hand and Foot, but more than the game itself, she treasured the laughter and connection that came with it. A woman of strong faith, Barbara carried herself with quiet strength and conviction. She was a fierce protector of her family, offering guidance, comfort, and steadfast support through every season of life.
Her love was constant, her faith enduring, and her presence the foundation upon which her family stood. Though she will be deeply missed, the traditions she created, the values she instilled, and the love she gave so freely will live on for generations.
Barbara’s life was a testament to what matters most: faith, family, and being together.
