Barbara Gerson, 69, passed away on March 5, 2025, in Stony Brook, New York surrounded by loved ones.
Barbara was a dedicated educator, a loving wife, a devoted mother and grandmother, and a natural leader. She earned her Undergraduate Degree in Mathematics from SUNY Albany before continuing her education at SUNY Stony Brook, where she obtained a Master’s degree in Math Education. Her passion for teaching led her to Commack High School, where she taught the highest levels of mathematics for over 20 years. She was beloved by her students and colleagues alike for her commitment to excellence and her ability to inspire young minds. Towards the end of her tenure, she served as the Math Chair for the Commack School District, further shaping the academic experience of countless students.
Beyond her professional achievements, Barbara cherished her family above all else. She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey; her son Christopher and his wife Maria; her daughter Kimberly and her husband Gabriel; her daughter Danielle; and her two dogs, Ralph and Winston. She was also a proud grandmother to three grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life. Barbara is also survived by her three sisters, brother, and mother, Mary Jean Sharsky. She was predeceased by her father, Edward Sharsky, and her brother, James Sharsky.
A funeral service will be held on March 8, 2025, at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Setauket, New York [429 NY-25A, Setauket, NY 11733]. The service will begin at 10:45 AM and conclude at 12:15 PM.
Barbara’s legacy lives on through the many lives she touched as an educator and through the love she shared with her family. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
