Catherine D Smith

Born Oct 25, 1924 and passed away at her home Nov 05, 2023, at age 99. A graduate of Northport High School in 1942. Cathy met her future husband, (Ned) Edward H L Smith Jr while employed at Grumman during WWII. They married in 1946 and raised 7 children in Nissequogue and Loudonvillle, NY. Once Ned retired, they returned to Nissequogue to be among family and friends, Cathy worked until the age of 85 at Nissequogue Village Hall. She is survived by Moira Scheuring of Dryden NY, Elizabeth Smith of Smithtown, Richard Smith of Nissequogue, Edmund Smith of Brogue PA, Daniel Smith of Holtsville and Susanne Smith of Nyack NY. Grandchildren – Cathy Smith, Mary Smith and Michael Scheuring and a great grandson – Caleb Scheuring. Cathy was predeceased by Edward H L Smith Jr and her son, Edward H L Smith III. Visiting hours will be held at the St. James Funeral Home, 829 Middle Country Road, St. James, NY 11780; on Friday, Nov. 10th 2023 from 4:00pm-8:00pm. A funeral Mass will be at SS Philip & James RC, 1 Carow Place, St. James, NY 11780; on Saturday Nov. 11th, 2023 at 10:15am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to; SS Philip & James Church, reference Parish Social Ministry, 1 Carow Place, St. James, NY 11780; or The Suffolk County Historical Society, 300 West Main Street, Riverhead, NY 11901.
