Dana Albert Brussel peacefully passed away on December 22, 2025 at age 66, surrounded by
family, after a battle with cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother,
and friend.
Dana was born in Brooklyn, New York to parents Marie and Alan on February 15, 1959, and
was followed by two brothers, Keith and Todd. He met Laurie MacKenzie while attending Stony
Brook University, and they began their 46-plus years of marriage in 1979 before joining the
Navy together in 1981. Following a stint in Hawaii as a submariner, they relocated back to Long
Island. While working at the utility company full time, he attended law school at night, leading to
a 20-plus year career focusing on patent law.
Dana was always dependable to family and friends, and quick to share a laugh, helping hand, or
a drink with anyone. He will be remembered for his many passions and hobbies in life, including
photography, travel, music, Porsches, games, and tasting beer and whiskey.
Dana is survived by his mother Marie, wife Laurie, sons Geoffrey (and wife Allyson) and Brian
(and wife Renee), and grandson Jaxon.
In lieu of flowers, Dana requested donations to the American Cancer Society in his memory.
