Born in the United States, Elda was the last child of poor immigrants from Italy seeking a better life. As a bilingual child, she acted as an interpreter for her parents who raised her with a strong sense of Italian family traditions. Commuting to Manhattan every day from Queens, she graduated from Central Trade Needle School and worked in the textile business.
Elda brought those values of love, compassion, and empathy to her own family. She was married to Jospeh R. Sardi, Sr. until his passing 48 years later. Together, their family grew to include four children, 12 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Family celebrations included holidays, Sunday dinners, and backyard barbeques. She also taught the Catholic religion to neighborhood children and volunteered with a neighbor’s child daily physical therapy.
Touching the lives of so many, Elda passed away one day shy her 92nd birthday. She will be fondly remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be missed by everyone who knew her.
