Frank Mauceri of Saint James, NY passed away on Sunday, April 19 surrounded by his family. He was 76.
Beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and teacher, Frank will be forever remembered as a champion of science education in West Islip where he taught Physics at the public high school.
Born and raised on Long Island, Frank finished his undergraduate Mechanical Engineering degree in Buffalo, NY, and settled back on the Island to dedicate his life to teaching, completing his Masters in Education at SUNY Stonybrook. His pride was establishing a Physics for Phun class to help engage students outside the bounds of New York State’s rigid teaching structure. He supported many different clubs and events across the entire school district, especially with audio and visual engineering, and enjoyed taking any opportunity to support his students both in and out of the classroom.
Frank had innumerable hobbies, including, but not limited to: restoring classic cars, flying light aircraft, supporting the Bayport Aerodrome’s flight education programs, building and flying model airplanes, holding a General HAM license, auditing classes at Stony Brook, supporting several charities, computer programing, and fixing anything electronic or mechanical that wasn’t welded and nailed down (and sometimes when they were). Frank truly enjoyed helping others, and would continue to teach and share his knowledge in all of these pursuits. He frequently assisted friends and family, solving seemingly un-diagnosable problems every day.
Frank was predeceased by parents Jasper and Arcangela and is survived by wife Paula, son Joseph (Elise) Mauceri, grandchild Myles, sister Roseann, and numerous cousins, friends and loved ones.
Memorial Gatherings to be held on April 25, 7-9pm and April 26, 2-5pm at St James Funeral Home 829 Middle Country Rd, St James, NY.
