In Loving Memory of Janet Griem
(May 31, 1942 – March 27, 2026)
Born in Manhattan and raised in Queens Village, Janet Griem was a woman who navigated life as best she could. A kind and familiar face in the Kings Park community. Known by everyone from her years working at the Longhorn Diner and later the Green Room, Janet was a caring kind woman woven into the fabric of the neighborhood.
Music , boys and faith were the threads that ran through Janet’s younger life. As a young girl in the 1950s, she fell in love with the soulful harmonies of Doo-Wop and the high energy of early Rock ‘n’ Roll. She loved playing the piano, sang in her church choir, and cherished memories of the Billy Graham crusades in New York. These experiences sparked a lifelong passion for the energy of live performances and concerts. This love only grew over the decades; she called the launch of MTV "the best day ever" and curated a legendary collection of Rolling Stone magazines, records, and VCR tapes.
When she wasn’t listening to music, Janet was an avidreader who always had a book nearby. In her own way, she also made sure her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were remembered, never missing a holiday card or gift—even for Halloween. A die-hard Mets fan. Janet was a woman of specific habits who never turned down a new pair of shoes and always insisted on having her hair done, regardless of the final result.
Janet is predeceased by her parents and her children, Kim and Danny. She is survived by her Sisters Elaine and Heather , daughters Susan, Jean, and Laura; her grandchildren Michele, Melanie, Billy, Shane, Jack, Lana, Amelia, Lola, Julia, Erik, and Katie; and her great-grandchildren Xander and Daphne.
Her family finds comfort in knowing she is finally reunited with her parents and her children, likely playing the piano, dancing to Rock 'n' Roll, and enjoying as much dessert as she wants.
