Janet Williams Obituary

Janet Margaret Williams made her way to Heaven to greet her son Douglas on June 2, 2023.

Born on March 13, 1932, she was raised in Massachusetts by her parents Julius and Lillian Murad. They later moved to Queens, NY where her father was a vendor on the boardwalk, and her mother stayed home with the three children, Janet, Leona, and Ronald.

At the age of 18, Janet eloped with her true love Warren Williams and soon after welcomed their daughter Gail. Their family grew when they welcomed their second child, a boy named Douglas. And so started the Williams family which would grow to include 4 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren over the years. Janet and Warren were married for over 25 years. Although their marriage ended in divorce, they remained close friends until Warren (aka Poppa) passed in 2006.

Janet was a savvy and intelligent business-oriented woman who built and ran a lucrative furniture business for many years. Later in life she transitioned to real estate and became a very successful agent on Long Island with Arbour Homes and Properties. She capped off her real estate career at age 88 by helping her eldest granddaughter Jennifer and her husband Robert buy their forever home.

Janet loved to travel and visited many places around the world with her daughter and travel companion Gail. She especially loved to go on cruises and had been on over 10 throughout the years.

Janet lied about her age her entire life. Always dressed to the nines and made up to look her very best, it was easy for everyone to believe her when she said she was 10-15 years younger than she actually was. She was fiercely independent, some would even say stubborn, and lived on her own until the last few weeks of her life in her home in Nesconset, NY.

When she became a grandmother she put her all into her role and took the job very seriously. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker, and she passed down her recipes and skills to her entire family. Her recipes and traditions will live on forever through family holidays with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Everyone who knew her, loved and respected her and always felt loved and respected by her.  She poured her heart into her family and friends, and was generous with her time and her love. She was an avid gift giver and put so much thought into every gift she gave, no matter the recipient. Her generosity and warm heart will be missed by all whose lives she touched throughout her 91 years.

Janet is survived by her daughter Gail (Eric), her daughter-in-law Diana (wife of her deceased son Douglas), her grandchildren Jennifer (Robert), Jacquelyn (Daniel), Douglas, and Daniel (Jessica), and her great grandchildren Bernadette, Maeve, Margot, River, Sierra, Abigail, Alexis, and Kyle, as well as her nephew Michael (Terri), and great niece Kristle.
