John Edgar Figari Jr., 71, lifelong resident of Smithtown, Long Island passed away on January 4, 2021 following a long illness. John graduated from Smithtown Central High School in 1968. After graduating he served in the US Navy aboard the USS Seattle. He returned home to run Figari’s Liquor store, the family business, for over 40 years. John was very involved around town and was both a founding member and president of the Smithtown Chamber of Commerce. He also served as president of Smithtown Little League and Smithtown Booster Club. John was a devoted New York sports fan and spent many cold Sundays at the Meadowlands tailgating and rooting for his New York Jets. After retirement he enjoyed the snowbird lifestyle in St. Petersburg, Florida where he was an avid golfer. John’s warm, welcoming nature and positive outlook on life was an inspiration to all those who crossed his path.
John is predeceased by his parents, John Sr. and Veronica (nee Munson) Figari. John is survived by his adoring wife of 48 years, JoJo (nee Amato), his children John III (Michele), Michael (Renata), Diane (Dominick) and Lauren (Shannon); his grandchildren John IV, Noelle, Collin and Brady; his brother Steven (Linda) Figari and sister Donna (Stephen) Powers; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
