It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Josephine Neglia, beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, on December 28, 2024, at the age of 78.

Born on May 31, 1946, to the parents of Elizabeth and Frank Neglia in Harlem, New York, the second youngest of 17 children. 

Predeceased by her parents and siblings Vito, Vincenza, Mary, Elizabeth, Michael, and Clara.  Josie is survived by her four children, Jaqueline(Dan), Kenneth(Monica), Charles(Jennifer) and Joseph(Alicia). Grandchildren Dj, Amanda, Isabella, Christian, Luca, Jack, Ella and great grandchild Octavia and siblings Sonny, Frances, Martha, and Anthony.

Josie was raised in the Bronx and moved to Brentwood to raise her children and ultimately settled in Nesconset. Her strong work ethic began with employment on Wall Street which lead to banking and then she started her own house cleaning business. At age 53, she wanted to reinvent herself and took the civil servant test. She gained employment at the Smithtown Tax Assessors office. She flourished and became the supervisor a position she held until she retired.

Josie’s two passions were gardening and her family. She was a devoted mother who was ever present, offering support, wisdom and love in abundance. Her appreciation of Mother Nature was inspiring. She loved the rain, wind, snow, and sun. Her smile was contagious. She was loved by many and lived life to the fullest. She was never afraid to use her voice and decided to take up stand-up comedy at the age of 72. 

Josie will never be forgotten. Forever loved by her family and friends. She has left an indelible impression on those privileged to know her that will last for eternity.
