Kathryn (Tormey) Hofmann, 88, of St. James, NY died peacefully after a brief illness on July 23rd which she fought courageously. She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Albert Hofmann. They knew each other for over 80 years. She is also survived by their children Richard (Gail), Carolyn, Suzanne (Camilo) and Barbara (John) and 8 wonderful grandchildren Shaun, Ross, Michael, Matthew, John, Stephanie, Amanda and Stephen, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Dr. Peter Hofmann, her parents Veronica and Thomas Tormey, as well as her siblings Thomas, Dolores and James.
She was a proud alum of The Mary Louis Academy, keeping in touch with friends throughout her life. After school she worked for the New York office of the FBI. In addition to raising her five children, she worked for Smithtown Pediatrics for 30 years and became friends with not only her coworkers but every parent and patient. For many years she was a pastoral care volunteer at St. Catherine’s hospital, visiting and greeting many patients with her beautiful trademark warmth and smile.
She had a zest for life. She loved her trips with family and friends to Chicago, California, Europe, Florida, Mohegan Sun, Cape Cod, and day trips to NYC with her son Peter. Nothing made her happier than spending time with her family. Kay was full of fun, she loved to laugh and have a party. She had a true interest in everyone she met, remembering every detail no matter how small. When asked how she remembered all the details, she proudly replied “well, you know I did work for the FBI.” Kay truly was a people person. She was a friend to all and will be greatly missed by all of us who knew and loved her dearly.
