God has given Mrs. Lilykutty Illickal the gift of years . On January 22, 2023, Lilykutty was called to our Lord, at the precious age of 92, every year of which was lived fully, and in the light of the Lord.
Mrs Lily Illickal ,M.A., M. Ed, was a beloved daughter of renowned Prof KJ Cyriac (Sacred Heart College, EKM) and Mrs. Simoni Cyriac, BA (Palakunnel). Lilykutty was the loving wife of the late Dr. Mathew Illickal, (New York), beloved mother of Dr Maya (Dr.Anand Irimpen, USA), Mohan (businessman, USA, and Michele), Prof Manoj (JD, USA), and 5 grandsons.
Mrs Illickal had a passion for her home state of Kerala, community service, education for women, and the welfare of her fellow human beings. She was an avid reader and prolific writer. Mrs. Illickal is a graduate of Presidency College, Madras , and the University of Ottawa,Canada. Lilykutty taught English Literature at St Teresa’s college, EKM and Stella Maris College, Madras. While her husband Dr. Illickal was pursuing his studies at UCLA, the L.A. newspaper acclaimed Mrs. Illickal for her impactful teaching style and colorful saris. Lilykutty was founding member of Karuna Charities New York, with the late great Mrs. Lekha Sreenivasan. She worked tirelessly to provide funds to raise the living standards of women in Kerala, and served the homeless at soup kitchens in New York. Mrs. Illickal was president of Kerala Samajam, a member of FOKANA, NY, and Catholic Association NY. Lily was a member of the American Association of University Women, NY, and a member of PEO, NY.
Mrs. Illickal was known for her quick wit, her kind and compassionate spirit, her ability to set a generous meal at a moment’s notice, and maintaining the spirit of Kerala.
Lilykutty will be missed dearly by her family, her friends of all ages, and all those who have known her magnanimous spirit.
