Maria Bataller, age 91, a long-time resident of Saint James, passed away on April 8, 2021, in her hometown. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Kostoula Mannos. Maria was proud of her Greek heritage and cherished her life growing up in College Point. Through her family connections, she was blessed with meeting and marrying her beloved husband of 65 years, William, who preceded her in death. She was similarly blessed with raising a family that loved her dearly and that she loved back fiercely. We know, because we are that family.
She was a devoted employee of the Accompsett Elementary School, where she worked in the nurse's office caring for the students. She was a long-time member of Saint James Episcopal Church, where she cared deeply for her community. Her friends were many, and her love of life boundless.
Maria is survived by two sons and one daughter, Gary (Susan) of Cary, North Carolina, Carol Perkins of Saint James, and Neal (Susan Phillips) of Laytonsville, Maryland; grandchildren, Becky, Janel, Alex, William, Henry, Gary and Will; and great-grandchildren, Polly, Erik, Maya, Anthony, Penny, and Alina.
A funeral and graveside service will be held at Saint James Episcopal Church in Saint James, starting at 12 noon on Monday, April 12. A light luncheon will be served afterwards in the parish hall.
