Nicolina Rose Lo Castro October 17, 1934 - December 13, 2023
Nicolina Rose LoCastro passed peacefully at her home in St. James on Wednesday, December 12, 2023. "Lena" lived in St. James for 53 years. She was an active member of the St. James community and in her Parish community at Saints Philip and James Roman Catholic Church. Nicolina was a longstanding and devoted member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Nicolina was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Martire and Anna Giove of Bari, Italy.
Lena married Anthony LoCastro in 1956 and they were married until Anthony's death in 1987. Their family included four children, ten grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews, all of whom were a constant source of joy for Lena. Lena lived her life joyfully. She loved spending time with her many friends, and with her three sisters, who also resided in St. James. Lena had a great sense of humor and an ever present smile. She was devoted to her faith, and to her family.
Nicolina was predeceased by her husband, Anthony LoCastro, by her brother, Donato Giove, by her sisters Vita Gill and Serafina LoCastro, and by her grandson, David LoCastro. She is survived by her sister, Francis Bossoreale, and by her children, Francine Creedon (Peter), Dominick (Merrell), John (Beth), and Janine Gambardella (Andrew). Nicolina is also survived by her grandchildren, Matthew Creedon, Anthony LoCastro, Daniel LoCastro (Bianca), Mark Creedon (Lara), Nicholas LoCastro, Danielle Gambardella-Larsen (Tyler), John Scott LoCastro, Emily Gambardella, Charlotte Creedon, and by her great grandchild, James LoCastro.
