It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard P. Cooper.
Born on October 8th, 1960, Richard's life was a testament to kindness, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.
Richard was an exceptional individual, cherished by his family, friends, and those fortunate enough to have known him. His caring and loving soul shone brightly in every aspect of his life, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
A brilliant mind and a dedicated professional, Richard was an accomplished medical doctor specializing in HIV treatments. His academic journey began at Stony Brook Prep School, from where he graduated in 1979 as valedictorian. He then went on to attend Georgetown University, earning 3 distinctions; Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and Sigma Xi in his graduating class of 1983. His passion for medicine led him to excel at Georgetown medical school, setting the stage for a career marked by empathy, excellence, and a profound impact on countless lives.
Richard's legacy is not only professional but deeply personal. He is predeceased by his father, James (Andre) Cooper, and survived by his loving mother, Joan, and his siblings, James Cooper, Gary Cooper, and Debra Triggs and brother in law Rich. His nephew Brian Quinn, niece Caroline, a great nephew and niece, and a host of loving extended family members and close friends, also survive him. Each of these individuals played a significant role in his life, and he in theirs, creating a tapestry of shared memories and mutual love.
Known for his kindness, intelligence, and caring nature, Richard also had a deep appreciation for the finer things in life. His dedication to his beloved pets showed his gentle spirit, and his skill as an avid gardener brought beauty to the world around him.
As we mourn the loss of Richard, we also celebrate a life well-lived—a life that was a beacon of hope and a source of comfort to many. Richard's memory will continue to inspire us, reminding us of the power of kindness, the importance of compassion, and the enduring impact of a life dedicated to service.
