Richard Johansen Obituary

Richard Johansen, beloved father, bestefar, and dear friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 81. Born on February 2, 1944, Richard lived a life filled with love, pride, and unwavering commitment to his family, friends, and the values he cherished. He will be remembered for his strength of character, his deep sense of duty, and his steadfast devotion to those he loved.

Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, Richard carried the pride of his Norwegian heritage throughout his life. He embraced his roots with a profound appreciation for the traditions that shaped him. Richard served honorably in the U.S. Navy, protecting the values he held dear. His military service was a cornerstone of his life, and he took great pride in having served his country.

In the early 1960s, Richard met Uni, the vibrant and spirited Norwegian who would become his best friend and life partner. They married in 1967, and their bond became the foundation of Richard’s world, built on unwavering devotion, mutual respect, and shared laughter. Together, they raised a beautiful family, welcoming their daughter, Ellen, and son, Erik, into the world.

Above all, Richard’s greatest pride was his family. As a devoted husband, father, and bestefar, he treasured every moment with his children and grandchildren. He didn’t miss a lacrosse game, band concert, or horseback riding competition. Richard loved to "steal" his four special grandchildren for the weekend, always begging for a little extra time. Each visit ended with full bellies, laughter, and cherished memories.

Richard found joy in life’s simple pleasures, embracing hobbies for each season. Whether basking in the sun, body surfing the ocean waves, cross-country skiing through snowy trails, or embarking on chaotic camping trips with the family, Richard was always fully present. He also had a love for detailing his car, often referred to as his "hot rod" by the kids. He was a lifelong learner, an avid reader, documentary enthusiast, and anything else that expanded his understanding of history and the world.

A man of integrity, Richard believed deeply in the power of hard work and tradition. His dedication to his family and his work in the union was unwavering. He spent many years building a life for his loved ones, always committed to fairness, community, and securing a better future for all.

His immeasurable love and unwavering support will continue to resonate through the generations.

Richard leaves behind a legacy of love, respect, and honor. He was a man whose spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. His family and friends will deeply miss him, and his memory will live on in their hearts and traditions for years to come.

May he rest in peace, knowing the profound impact he made on the lives of those around him.
