Robert “Bob” Sammarco, 84, passed away on Saturday, November 18th in Fort Myers, Florida.Robert was born January 26th, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York. He met his future wife and lifelong partner Gilda “Jill” on Coney Island. They were married for 67 years. He is survived by Jill and by daughters Denise, Victoria, Barbara, and Deborah; sons-in-law Shannon, Bob, and Frank; and grandchildren Jennifer, Kevin, Christina, Alyssa, Austin, Sean, Tyler, and Jamie. Robert joined the New York City Fire Department in 1962, rising to the rank of Lieutenant and serving until his retirement in 1982. He loved to tell stories about his service in the FDNY as well as recounting the antics of the probies whom he trained at the Fire Academy.He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Though his favorites were owls, he loved all animals and enjoyed learning about them on Animal Planet. Since his retirement, he enjoyed road trips in his van. He was also a well-known cook and baker in his family.
