Robert Smith Obituary

On the evening of January 3rd, Robert (“Bob”) Smith passed away at 75. Robert was born in 1947 in Brooklyn, NY. He was the second-born of five to the late Thomas and Kathleen Smith. He is survived by his sisters Patricia Shaw and husband Robert, Kathy Felipe and husband Roy; brothers David Smith and wife Cathie and Michael Smith; sons Robert Smith and Michael Smith and wife Jessica, and grandchildren Landon and Addison Smith.

Robert was a man of principles, faith, and respect, finding genuine pride and joy in raising his two sons. With a calling that led him to share his wisdom and guidance with the younger generations of our town, Robert Smith soon became a father figure to many.

Though he had a successful career as an aerospace engineer, it would be eclipsed by his passion for coaching and mentoring the children of Smithtown.  For over 25 years, he was an avid volunteer of the Smithtown Kickers, ten of which as club President, and a coach for Smithtown Highschool.  He was a fixture on the sidelines of games and meets, thunderously cheering for his sons, friends, or even the opposition if the play deserved.

Although the world may have lost a truly selfless man, his legacy lives on. We are deeply saddened by the loss of our dear father, who was and will always remain a role model. We take solace in knowing he is now at peace. Rest in peace, Robert Smith.
