Rose M. DeSalvo
Aug 21, 1921 – April 17, 2020 (age 98)
Loving wife of the late Thomas G. DeSalvo. Wonderful mother to John (Marianne) DeSalvo and Theresa (Gordon) Sherland. Beloved Grandmother to Amanda (Douglas) Pawlikowski, Laura Sherland & Jason Harrington. Loved and was loved by many nieces, nephews & friends.
Rose was born in Brooklyn, NY to parents Anthony & Jennie Giordano. With her 3 sisters (Anna, Jean & Julie), she had a very lively childhood and always enjoyed being with her family and cousins. After finishing the 8th grade, Rose went to work as a messenger for a sewing company, delivering many goods throughout Manhattan. She often talked about eating lunch on the building rooftop overlooking the Hudson River.
She met Tom at one of the Manhattan dance halls soon after the war and they married on June 1st, 1947. Rose became a homemaker and was devoted to her family. She was a wonderful cook and loved having large family Sunday dinners.
Rose returned to the workforce at age 60 when Tom became ill. She worked for a knitting mill assisting operators with inventory for the next 29 years, retiring at the age of 89.
Upon retirement, she became a resident of Siena Village in Smithtown and forged many new and wonderful friendships. She enjoyed playing cards weekly with her friends and loved playing bingo every Friday!
A memorial celebration will be held at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the places that helped Rose in so many ways:
