Rosemarie Hetterich (nee LeRoy)
Rosemarie Hetterich, a longtime resident of Smithown, and more recently Lake Grove, passed from this world on February 17, 2021 at the age of 87. She was welcomed home by her beloved husband of 52 years, Joseph Hetterich, Jr. Together they raised six children, enjoying the beaches of Long Island, school events and sports, gathering with family for big picnics and Friday pizza nights, and camping up and down the east coast. Roe was a teacher’s aide with the Smithtown School District, and a volunteer at Sts. Phillip and James Church for many years. She will be deeply missed by her children and their spouses, Joe and Maureen, Paul and Beth, Rob and Teri, Doreen and Tom, Denise and Bryan, and Donna and Andy. She is survived by 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, with one more on the way. They will all carry sweet memories of their Grandma and GG, especially of her chocolate chip cupcakes. Roe was a dear sister to Lorraine and the late George Schweers, and Peggy and Jack Ashley. Her nieces and nephews from the Schweers, Ashley, Reuschle, and Bracken families will fondly remember Aunt Roe, and the many family gatherings over the years. We all take great comfort in knowing that Roe and Joe are together again.
A funeral mass will be held at Sts. Philip and James Catholic Church on Monday, February 22, 2021 at 11:45. The mass will be livestreamed at sspj.org Private interment at Calverton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Good Shepard Hospice at CHSLI.org, or a charity of your choice.
