Theresa Hughes Knox passed away peacefully on the evening of April 21, 2025. Theresa (Terri) is survived by her husband John, son William (Celia), daughters Linda and Emily (Matthew). Her grandchildren are Evan, Veronica and Ramona. Terri is also survived by her brother Keith (Ellen) as well as many other loving family members and friends.
Terri was born in Liberty, NY and raised by her parents William and Dolores Hughes in Roslyn Heights, NY. Terri met her husband John at her family’s home in July, 1976 and they married in May, 1979. They would be celebrating their 47th wedding anniversary this May. Terri and John first lived in North Babylon, NY but as their family expanded, they moved to Nesconset, NY in March, 1987 where they raised their 3 children.
Terri was educated at St. Aidan’s grammar school, Maria Regina high school and the State University at Stony Brook. During her college years, Terri worked in the admissions office of Winthrop University Hospital. Upon college graduation, she was employed at the Wall Street office of Citibank NA whereupon she worked her way to the position of Senior Trust Officer - responsible for overseeing significant corporate bond issues.
With respect to her community, Terri was a girl scout leader and taught after school religion classes. She became an active member in her children’s PTAs serving in all official positions including President. In 2000, Terri was elected as trustee to the Smithtown School District Board of Education and in all served 5 terms (15 years in total). Terri also became active in the Smithtown School Scholarship Committee and was serving as its current President.
Terri enjoyed travelling, entertaining, reading, gardening, solving NY Times puzzles, visiting her grandchildren and being involved in her children’s activities.
Terri was deeply faithful, believed in hard work and promoting family values. She was continually involved in passing these values to her children and grandchildren. Terri treasured her moments with her family and loved having them altogether.
She left an unforgotten mark on all who knew her and her legacy of love, hard work and family values will live in our hearts forever. May she rest in peace knowing the impact she has made on the lives of those around her.
