Thomas James O’Brien

Thomas James, in his 76th year, 50 year resident of St James, NY, passed on May 6, 2023. Retired Suffolk County Police,  Town of Smithtown Bay Constable, graduate of Seton Hall HS Class of 1965, attended Bentley College. Cherished husband for 54 years to Mil. Devoted and loving father to Jennifer (Andrew) Gilbride, Thomas (Kate), and Timothy (Rebecca).  Darling Pop of Jack, Peter, Maggie, Tommy, and Abigail. Loving brother of Pat and Dave Jackson, Judy and the late Jim Hanrahan, Joe and the late Dolores, Beth and the late Chris. Loving brother-in-law of Robert (Jeannette) and John (Melinda) Volny. Beloved uncle and great uncle of many nieces and nephews. Avid boater, golfer, fisherman, and photographer. Tom was adored for his bright, swift, intelligent Irish wit and charm. Additionally,  he was a hard-working, responsible man with a noble heart and a strong sense of right and wrong. He was a just and good man. He was beautiful inside and out. He will be so missed. Friends may call St. James Funeral Home, 829 Middle Country Rd, Rt 25, St. James, NY, on Thursday, 2-5 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass on Friday at 10:15 AM at Sts. Philip & James R.C. Church, St. James, NY. Burial to follow at St. James Episcopal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Tom to Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
