Thomas William Whittle 71, passed away on December 15, 2025. Thomas was born in Oviedo Florida on August 28, 1954. He had eight brothers and three sisters, he was number 12 and he was the baby of the bunch. Both parents and all siblings have passed on before Thomas.
Tom was a faithful member of Lighthouse Tabernacle Church Of God located in Central Islip, New York. He served as an usher and was a prayer warrior. He was also one of the instructors for the Royal Rangers. Tom held a teacher’s certificate and taught an apprenticeship in sheet metal. Tom was a member of a men’s group which met every Thursday at Calvary Church of God in St. James New York.
Tom enjoyed gardening, watching college football, eating nuts, telling corny jokes, and playing with his favorite granddaughter Savana. She had him wrapped around her fingers and he loved it!
Tom cherished his church and his family. He was a very kind and sweet man. He was a man of integrity and easy to talk to.
Tom had suffered a brain aneurysm in January 2021, which left him very weak on his right side, partially blind in one eye, and had to use a walker to get around. But in spite of his disability, he was able to come home.
On September 2023, Tom suffered a second brain aneurysm which left him with very limited use on his right side, a weak left side, his vision was completely blurred, slurred speech,
He lived with vertigo 24 hours a day seven days a week and now he had to use a wheelchair. Unfortunately, due to his severe disability Tom couldn’t return home so he became a resident of Gurwin Jewish Nursing Home in Commack, New York.
Tom was treated with dignity and respect. He had wonderful aides of which some of them went beyond the call of duty. He was surrounded by a great medical team, of which his daughter was a part of. He had the joy of participating in special events. Tom especially loved playing BINGO with his Recreational staff Patty. There was always one prize to be won…her Love and Admiration.
Our Church family provided and installed a wheelchair ramp and a large door to enable Tom to come home for visits. So with the service of an accessibility bus, Tom was able to visit. But most importantly to him, to be able to go to church and worship with his church family.
Tom is survived by his wife Arlene of 13 years, four children, Anthony, John, Jaylene and Brandon six grandchildren Ariana, Lucas, Alex, Savana, Lyanna and Anthony two godchildren Lori and Destiny two number one sisters-in-law Annie and Sofy And a very large extended family
