It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Zdzislaw Stanislaw Drejer on March 23, 2025. He was 85 years old and had been living in St. James, New York, for the past 15 years.
Born on November 13, 1939, in Suwalki, Poland, Zdzislaw was the son of Czeslaw and Stefania Drejer. He married Aleksandra Buraczewska on December 26, 1961, and he worked as a building inspector both for the government and private companies. He was also conscripted into the Polish Navy for three years and loved being near the water in Gdansk. An avid fisherman, Zdzislaw enjoyed visiting many lakes and rivers of local national parks, as well as the Baltic Sea. Upon his move to America, he often continued this hobby on the Long Island Sound.
Zdzislaw was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, daughter, Ewa (Jaroslaw Stefanowski), grandson, Kamil Stefanowski (Lynette), three grandchildren (John Joseph, Edward Stanislaw, and Katherine Aleksandra Verina), and many family members in Poland.
Visitation and service will be held at the St. James Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 26, 2025. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sts. Philip and James Church in St. James on Thursday, March 27, 2025. The burial and interment will be held at The National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa on Friday, March 28, 2025.
